PRO: By hiring both Hutus and Tutsis, and remaining editorially independent despite government intimidation (and two assassination attempts), Sinduhije, winner of the Committee to Protect Journalists' 2004 International Press Freedom Award has tried to heal the wounds of Burundi's crippling 10-year civil war by passionately advocating rule-of-law. Now he's now putting everything on the line with a 2010 presidential run.

CON: Running for president in a war-torn African nation is a dangerous business. Also, when a good journalist turns politician, it may be a gain for the polity, but it's a loss for good journalism — just as rare a commodity in Africa as good governance.

Qu'Alexis Sinduhije soit du MSD, qu'il soit de telle ou telle ethnie, de telle ou telle région, son classement par le très sérieux journal américain Time mérite des félicitations et une fierté pour nous les Burundais.

Alexis Sinduhije et Jacob Zuma sont les seuls africains à être classés parmi les 100 personnalités. Son combat est récompensé et c'est aussi une reconnaissance des efforts du peuple burundais pour lutter pour un Burundi meilleur.
